iPhone Comparison: iPhone SE vs iPhone 5S vs iPhone 6. See the common features and the differences that make them better or worse for you.
Apple has been a trend setter in the phone market in the recent past. This is informed by the frequent release of its iPhone series of phones. One of its latest models is the iPhone SE. The release of iPhone SE was confirmed by Apple in March. The new iPhone succeeds the iPhone 5S, bringing a fresh and improved smaller iPhone. The following is a comparison of iPhone SE, iPhone 5S and 6.
The iPhone SE borrows much of its design cues from the iPhone 5S. However, it has a couple of adjustments that include matte edges. It is smaller than the iPhone 6 and comes with a lighter weight of 113g. The exterior of the iPhone SE features flat edges and an aluminum body that gives it the premium appeal. It measures 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm making it thicker than the iPhone 6. It is offered in gold, space gray, rose gold and silver color.
The iPhone SE comes with the M9 and A9 chip motion co-processor that provides great performance. It is supported by 2GB of RAM which is double of what the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 have. The RAM is similar to that of the latest released iPhones.
The dimensions of the iPhone 5S are 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6mm. It weighs 112g and has an aluminum body. This iPhone has only two color options; space gray and silver. This gives it a premium look though it may not appear as colorful as the iPhone SE.
Apple’s iPhone 5S features an M7 motion co-processor and an A7 processor. Though it is not as powerful as iPhone SE and iPhone 6 it is still a fast smartphone. It comes with 1GB of RAM.
The Apple iPhone 6 offers an aluminum body and only comes in space gray and silver color options. It hits the scales at 129g and measures 138.1 x 67 x 6.9mm. It has a slim build, beautiful curved edges and has no sharp edges.
The iPhone 6 features the m8 motion and A8 co-processor. It has a RAM of 1GB and is available in 64GB and 16GB storage options. When compared to the iPhone 5S, it is more powerful.
The iPhone SE has a smaller 4-inch display that is appealing to buyers who prefer smaller smartphones. The resolution is 1136 x 640 like that of the iPhone 5S. The display delivers a 326ppi in pixel density. This means it has ample sharpness that guarantees no blur or softness to images. Apart from the iPhone SE not providing 3D Touch, it has bigger problems of trying to fit everything onto the small display. However, it supports the Apple Pay feature. The 4-inch display is great for one-hand handle though it may feel small to those used to larger devices. It offers bright natural-toned colors.
The display for the iPhone 5S is similar to the SE. Therefore, it delivers similar resolution and pixel density. It also has no 3D Touch which is the pressure sensitive display version of Apple.
Apple’s iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch Retina HD display. The phone’s resolution is at 1334 x 750 and delivers a pixel density of 326ppi. Just like the iPhone SE and iPhone 5S, it does not have 3D Touch. Though it lacks the 3D touch feature it supports Apple Pay which makes it different from the iPhone 5S. The colors on this iPhone are also bright and offer excellent graphics to users.
iPhone camera specification – The iPhone SE has a rear camera similar to the iPhone 6s, meaning it is better than the iPhone 5S. The rear camera has a 12-megapixel sensor capable of Live Photos and 4K video recording. The lens has larger 1.22µm pixels and an aperture of f/2.2. The lens specs allow it to take better low light pictures. The front of the iPhone SE has a 1.2MP camera that offers resolution similar to that of the iPhone 5S. It has a Retina flash for taking better images in dark conditions.
The iPhone 5S has a 1.2-megapixel front camera and an 8-megapixel rear camera. The iPhone 5S rear camera has a f/2.2 aperture, 1.5 µm pixel size and 1/3″ sensor. It reaches up to at 1080p video.
The iPhone 6 has a 1.2MP front camera and 8MP rear camera. The rear camera comes with 1.5µm pixels and an aperture of f/2.2. The front camera has a f/2.2 aperture and is 1.2-megapixel. It has the capability of 1080p video recording similar to the iPhone SE.
The iPhone SE’s capacity is 1642mAh. This is quite a good capacity for heavy smartphone usage. The processor performance of this phone helps in saving the power in the battery which shows a bigger improvement from the iPhone 5S. The battery capacity of the iPhone 5s is 1560mAh.
The iPhone 6 has a battery capacity said to be 1810mAh. The battery life is long enough for normal use within a day. When the phone is on Low Power Mode, the battery can support your phone use for a few more hours.
The price of the 64 GB iPhone SE starts at $399. On the other hand, the iPhone 6 starting price is $549 and may go up to $855 for the one with 128GB storage capacity. The iPhone 5S costs between $319 and $939 at Apple authorized stores.
The iPhone SE and iPhone 5S run on iOS 9 and so does the iPhone 6. The iOS 9 is the latest iOS software from Apple. However, the iPhone 5S and iPhone is not capable of Live Photos unlike the iPhone SE due to hardware limitations. Additionally, the three iPhones do not support the 3D Touch shortcuts for the same reason.
The Apple iPhone SE has interesting specs for an Apple smartphone with a starting price of $399. It has better graphics and processing power better than that of the iPhone 5S. Its camera is also outstanding and impressive especially considering its price. It is basically a smaller version of iPhone 6 despite some variations in features. It is therefore a better choice over the iPhone 5S. If you are looking for a large iPhone you could go for the iPhone 6. It offers pretty desirable performance and aesthetic appeal.
